Introduction to Small Game Hunting

9/8/2018 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM 

Located at Kenai River Center in Soldotna

Part I - Ptarmigan, grouse and hare can make a tasty dinner. Learn to identify small game species, and about regulations, legal methods and what equipment you'll need for hunting. Learn how to care for and field-dress small game.

Part II - Develop a hunter "search image", learn to identify and different small game habitats and the plant species they use. Participants will venture into the field with Small Game Biologist, Rick Merizon to observe hare, grouse and ptarmigan habitat.

Class is geared for adults and youth (10 and up) accompanied by an adult.

This class is made possible by a generous grant from the Founding Forty in partnership with ADF&G.

Deer Hunting Skills (A Beyond BOW)

Located at the Juneau Indoor Shooting Range

How do deer think, where do they live, what do they eat, what signs do they leave and how do you find them? How do you call a deer in? What does a deer hunter need to take in the field? Not an actual hunting trip, but an overview of deer hunting skills, regulations and gear.

Map and Compass (Beyond BOW)

Located at the Rabbit Creek Shooting Range in Anchorage 

This Map and Compass course is designed to teach the beginner basic map and compass skills that will help you navigate around outdoors with confidence. Learn about different types of maps and compasses and other basic orienteering map and reading skills. Learn how to “orient” a map and work a compass so that you can find your location or a set course.

Want to take your shotgun skills to the next level? Improve your shooting skills and learn the fundamentals of shooting 5-stand. Participants will practice shooting specific style targets with one-on-one coaching as well as practice 5-Stand Sporting Clays.

This course includes classroom and range time, and will cover: The rules for safe firearm handling, Handgun parts and operation, Ammunition components and storage,  Shooting fundamental and range rules,  Shooting from various positions, Selecting a personal handgun, How to clean handguns and much more!

Introduction to Archery (Beyond BOW)

Located at the Juneau Archery Club Indoor Shooting Range

Learn the basics of a bow and arrow, using light compound bows. Safety and skill will be taught, and all materials supplied. This class is geared toward people who have never done archery before, or who are getting back into it and need a refresher.
