FREE FISHING DAY- STATE WIDE

In honor of National Hunting and Fishing Day, Georgia residents
do not need a fishing license or a trout license to fish on any public waters
in the state including lakes, streams, ponds and Public Fishing Areas.
Residents do not need to obtain a Wildlife Management Area license to fish
on a PFA, WMA or on Waters Creek on this day.

 


All listed events will take place on Saturday, September 27, 2014 and are FREE and open to the public, unless otherwise noted.

 

Northwest Georgia
Outdoor Adventure Day

9 am - 3 pm
James H “Sloppy” Floyd State Park
Open to all ages. Activities include: fishing, archery, JAKES Take Aim bb gun range, laser shot, canoeing, live animal displays, snake show and climbing wall. There also will be camping and fly fishing demos. Hot dogs and drinks provided on a first come, first serve basis. The event is FREE and this year there is FREE Parking in celebration of “National Public Lands Day.”

 

Northeast Georgia
Outdoor Adventure Day

10 am – 4 pm
Unicoi State Park
Open to all ages. Activities include: trout fishing & instruction, skeet, air gun & archery shooting, live animals and more. The event is FREE and this year there is FREE Parking in celebration of “National Public Lands Day.”

 

Northeast Georgia
Buford Dam - Kids Fishing Event

9 am – 1 pm
Buford Dam Lower Pool
Come have a fun day of fishing and more at Buford Dam! Open to kids 15 and younger (must be accompanied by an adult). Bait provided. A limited number of fishing poles will be available (kids are encouraged to bring their own if possible). Hot dogs, drinks and snacks provided for free. Fly tying, fishing demos and the JAKES Take Aim trailer available for additional fun. The Georgia WRD will stock trout for the event.

 

Central Georgia
Pond to Plate Family Festival

10 am – 2pm
Go Fish Education Center
Join us at this inaugural event at the Go Fish Education Center. Attendees will be able to tour the Go Fish Education Center, take part in some fun activities (How to Cast, Handling Your Catch, Knot Tying and more) and even see how to clean and cook your catch. Harvest of up to 5 catfish will be allowed Pond to Plate event is free with paid admission to Education Center.

Kids’ Fishing Event


8:00am – 11:00am
Big Lazer PFA Special Event Pond
Come have a fun day of fishing! For youth age 15 and under. Participants will need to bring their own fishing gear and bait. Bring a cooler to keep your catch (creel limits or other restrictions apply). Drawing for Prizes after Event!

Kids’ Fishing Event

8:00am-12:00 noon
McDuffie PFA
This event is for youth age 15 and under (an adult must accompany children). Come out and do some fishing with us! Central Georgia

Kids’ Fishing Event

8:00am – 12:00 noon
Marben PFA/Charlie Elliot Wildlife Center Clubhouse Lake
Kids under the age of 16 are invited to come hook a catfish during a fun day of fishing at Clubhouse Pond. Catfish creel limits apply. Fishing is for kids only (children 14 and under must be supervised by an adult)! Fishing gear will be available for those who need it.

 

South Central Georgia
Outdoor Adventure Day/JAKES Day

7:30 am – 2 pm (Special event fishing ponds open)
JAKES Day Event begins at 9 am
Paradise Public Fishing Area
Bring the kids for a day of outdoor family fun! There will be an adult/child fishing event at Lakes Cup and Saucer (kids should be age 15 and under) Fishing begins at 7:30 am. Instructional bass fishing excursions available (call ahead to reserve a time-912.285.6094).
JAKES Day registration starts at 9 am and includes: Steve Scruggs Wildlife Program, BB gun-skeet shooting range, ABAC Forestry Wildlife display and K-9 search and rescue demos. There will be a prize drawing at 2 pm. Kids ages 17 and under can participate and the National Wild Turkey Federation will provide lunch.

 

South Central Georgia
Kids’ Fishing Event

8:00 am – 12:00 noon
Hugh M. Gillis Public Fishing Area
This event is for youth age 15 and under. An adult must accompany children. Come out and do some fishing with us! Coastal Georgia

 

Outdoor Adventure Day

8 am –12 Noon
Richmond Hill State Fish Hatchery
Come out for family fun! Kids fishing ponds open to children age 15 and under. Participants will need to bring their own fishing gear and bait. Archery and kayaking opportunities and the Laser Shot hunting simulator will be available. Free hotdogs and drinks.
