Choke Canyon Bird and Wildlife Tracks

Located at the Choke Canyon State Park - Calliham Unit 

Come learn how to identify some common Texas wildlife tracks with one of our park rangers. The program will cover everything from birds and reptiles to some well-known mammals and endangered species. For those of you who love arts and crafts, younger children will get to trace tracks with crayons and older children will get to make molds of animal tracks to take home with them

Archery 101

Shore Fishing Clinic

Located at Sea Rim State Park

Come join us and learn how to shoreline fish like a pro. We will be fishing for everything the Gulf Coast has to offer. We will supply the gear, you will have the opportunity to gain a wealth of knowledge from a couple of experienced shoreline fisherman. NO fishing license is required when fishing from the shore at Texas State Parks.

Fishing with a Ranger

Everyone welcome for free catch and release instructional program. Come learn how to cast and catch a big one with our park ranger or local Master Naturalist! No fishing license required while on state park property. We have the poles and the worms.  All you need is your smile.

Sea Center Texas Youth Fishing Event 

9/15/2018 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM

Located at Sea Center Texas

Pack your sunscreen, hat, lawn chair and fishing gear for catch-and-release fishing at our marine fish hatchery and visitor education center. Open to guests 2 years old to 16 years old accompanied by an adult. Bring your own gear and bait with barbless hooks. No corks, artificial bait, treble hooks or metal leaders. A 4/0 or 5/0 circle hooks on a line with a weight (Carolina Rig) is recommended.

Antique Angling - Fishing in the San Pedro

Kid's Fishing

Located at the Elm Fork Park Lake Ray Roberts Spillway

Youth will learn the basics of fishing in this FREE class from certified TPWD Volunteer Angler Education Instructors. Topics include knot-tying, fish ID and habitats, stewardship, safety and regulations. All participants will receive a TPWD Angler pin and certificate. Fishing equipment will be provided, however use of personal equipment is optional.  Parental supervision not required.

First Catch Center - Houston

Located at the Kickerillo-Mischerer Preserve

Youth and adults can learn the basics of fishing. Equipment and bait will be provided, or bring your own gear. Topics will include fishing equipment and tackle box basics, knot-tying, fishing rules and regulations, fish ID and habitat, angler ethics, proper fish handling techniques, water and boat safety, environmental stewardship, and some local tips, tricks and techniques to catch fish.

Family Fishing Day

9/22/2018 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM 

Located at Bonham State Park 

This FREE event will be held down at the lake by the boat house. Ranger Linda will be available to help bait hooks for the squeamish.  We have a limited number of poles available along with fresh worms or bring your own gear. (We recommend a small hook, weight and bobber to catch the ever greedy perch)

Crabbing 101

Angler Education Instructor Workshop

9/23/2018 from 12:30 PM to 5:30 PM

Located at the Oso Bay Wetlands Preserve & Learning Center

This free workshop is open to anyone 18 or older interested in teaching fishing skills in their communities. The workshop will include a mix of indoor and outdoor training, if conditions allow. We provide the curriculum, equipment (where available), materials and support to help volunteers successfully introduce youth and adults to fishing. Ideal for teachers, youth group leaders, after school or camp staff and community volunteers. TEA-approved CPE available for teachers.
