Bass Pro Shops Renews Sponsorship of NHF Day
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Bass Pro Shops and its founder, Johnny Morris, have long been devoted to helping the public understand the indelible ties between hunting, fishing and conservation. So it’s no wonder that Bass Pro Shops has renewed its longstanding support for an annual celebration with the same goal—National Hunting and Fishing Day.
NHF Day is set for Sept. 26, 2009.
Congress formalized National Hunting and Fishing Day in 1972 to recognize hunters and anglers for their leadership in conservation. Through licenses, permits and special taxes, these outdoor sportsmen and women generate $100,000 every 30 minutes—totaling more than $1.75 billion per year—for fish, wildlife and habitat.
Every U.S. President from Richard M. Nixon to George W. Bush, as well as numerous governors and mayors, have issued formal proclamations commemorating the day.
“Johnny Morris and all of the rest of us at Bass Pro Shops are proud to be a part of this annual event that celebrates this nation’s great heritage of hunting and fishing,” said Bass Pro Shops Manager of Communications and Outdoor Education Larry Whiteley. “It is important to get the message out about what hunters and anglers do to contribute to habitat programs for fish and wildlife and vital for all of us who love the outdoors to pass on these traditions to both kids and adults.”
Bass Pro Shops’ sponsorship supports Wonders of Wildlife museum in Springfield, Mo., the official home of National Hunting and Fishing Day. The museum directs national programs and campaigns to build public awareness of the connections between hunting, angling and conservation.
“Traditional National Hunting and Fishing Day events are being organized around the country and we offer free guides and tools to help planners. We’re also developing new PSAs, communications and other promotions to help deliver the NHF Day message throughout the year,” said Denise Wagner of Wonders of Wildlife.
Rising country music star Luke Bryan is the honorary chairman for NHF Day 2009.
The growing list of sponsors for National Hunting and Fishing Day includes Wonders of Wildlife, National Shooting Sports Foundation, Bass Pro Shops, The Sportsman Channel, Realtree, GunBroker.com, Hunting Heritage Trust, Cabela’s, Boone and Crockett Club, Smith & Wesson, Field & Stream/Outdoor Life, Woolrich and Yamaha.
