Free Communication Tools from NHF Day
SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—Speeches at school, lectures for civic groups, presentations at club meetings. These are just a few of the uses for new communication tools now available free from National Hunting and Fishing Day. PowerPoint slides, sample script, automated slideshow with audio, speaking tips, handouts and more, all available at www.nhfday.org, can help you deliver a compelling message about hunting, fishing and conservation.
National Hunting and Fishing Day is Sept. 26, 2009, but the new materials are designed as a year-round celebration of the NHF Day theme. That is, conservation in America succeeds because of hunters and anglers.
Congress formalized NHF Day in 1972. Today, the annual commemoration has an official home at Wonders of Wildlife in Springfield, Mo. The museum developed the new communication tools as an extension of its public awareness mission.
“Our tagline for this project is ‘Hunt. Shoot. Fish. Share the Pride’ and our goal is equipping every hunter, angler and sport shooter to effectively communicate the conservation benefits of traditional outdoor recreation. It’s about our entire community working together to build public understanding and appreciation of our lifestyle,” said Denise Wagner of Wonders of Wildlife.
Hunting and fishing licenses, along with excise taxes on firearms, ammunition, bows, arrows, rods and reels, generate $100,000 every 30 minutes—totaling more than $1.75 billion per year—for fish, wildlife and habitat. Nobody contributes more to conservation than hunters, anglers and sport shooters.
The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) produced the automated version of the PowerPoint slides, which can be used either as a sample or actual presentation.
“NSSF founded the NHF Day concept in 1971 and continues to be a leading supporter. We’re grateful to them and all our sponsors because their generosity allows us to continually develop new ways to help Americans understand that conservation depends on leadership and stewardship from hunters, anglers and sport shooters,” said Wagner.
